Billboards, TV and Radio Ads Galore!
We have all seen the billboards along the highway and heard the countless radio and television advertisements declaring:
"Have you been hurt by a truck? Call now to get the money you deserve!"
While these ads often focus on the worst outcomes involving commercial vehicles, there is another side of the story worth recognizing.
The Facts
In 2025, overall traffic fatalities in the United States declined by 6.7% compared to 2024. The national fatality rate fell to 1.10 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, making it the second-lowest rate in recorded history.
In addition, overall crash-related injuries decreased year over year. Fatalities declined across several categories, including nighttime driving, rural interstate highways, single-vehicle crashes, and among unrestrained occupants.
These numbers reflect the ongoing efforts of drivers, carriers, trainers, and safety professionals who work every day to make our roads safer.
Safety Matters
At West Bend Transit, we want unsafe drivers off the road just as much as anyone else. We also believe carriers should be held accountable when they place profits ahead of proper training, compliance, and safety practices.
A safe, well-trained professional driver reduces risk for everyone on the road. That is why we invest in training, accountability, and a culture that takes safety seriously.
Recognizing the Professionals
Unfortunately, negative stories often receive the most attention. What is rarely highlighted is that the overwhelming majority of professional drivers operate safely and responsibly every day.
These men and women perform a job that many of us could not do. They navigate heavy traffic, construction zones, changing weather conditions, distracted drivers, and countless other challenges while ensuring freight reaches its destination safely and on time.
Perhaps someday the conversation will shift from focusing solely on accidents to also recognizing the professionalism, skill, and dedication demonstrated by drivers across our industry.
